1. Forrest Gump BINGO
Students turn a class viewing of Forrest Gump into a historical identification game by selecting terms from a provided list and watching for them throughout the film. A teacher guide includes timestamps for scenes you may wish to skip.
2. Historical Figure Promposal
Students create a promposal for a historical figure selected from a provided list, using their knowledge of the person and historical context. Includes a grading rubric.
3. Historical Figure Spirit Animal
Students match a historical figure with an animal and explain the historical connections behind their choice before creating a visual representation. Includes a grading rubric.
4. Historical Figures Blind Mocktail Hour
Students are secretly assigned historical figures and interact with classmates while trying to determine the identity pinned to their back. This can also be incorporated into an end-of-year class celebration.
5. Dr. Seuss-Style U.S. History Storybook
Students choose an event from U.S. history and retell it as an illustrated, rhyming story inspired by the structure of Dr. Seuss books. This activity can be expanded into a larger final project and includes a grading rubric.
